Contestants may choose to apply to any one category, so long as they are not older than the age limit.

Applications must be received in full. Any bank fees must be paid by the sender,
or the application will be deemed not valid.

Prizes

• First Prizes Categories A, B, and C: each winner will receive 30% of the total scholarship money for his or her category.
  
• Second Prizes Categories A, B, and C: each winner will receive 25% of the total scholarship money for his or her category.
  
• Third Prizes Categories A, B, and C: each winner will receive 20% of the total scholarship money for his or her category.
  
• Fourth Prizes Categories A, B, and C: each winner will receive 15% of the total scholarship money for his or her category.
  
• Fifth Prizes Categories A, B, and C: each winner will receive 10% of the total scholarship money for his or her category.
  
• First Prize Winners of the Categories B and C will be invited to perform a live recital in Napoli. The performance will take place at a prestigious venue, to be chosen among the most important historical and artistic sites of Napoli (i.e. Castel Nuovo, Sala Vasari, National Archaeological Museum). The recital will be advertised to guarantee maximum exposure. If invitation is accepted, performers agree to receive no fee.
  
• All prize winners of all categories will be awarded the chance to perform a live-streamed concert from a location of their choice. Duration will depend on their age and repertoire, but in any case total duration will not exceed 50 minutes. Prize winners may decide to record a performance instead of streaming it live. Either the live or the recorded performance will be published on the “Napolinova” Facebook page, and on the Facebook, WeChat, YouTube, or Youku platforms of the jury members.
  
• At the conclusion of the competition, contestants who do not win prizes can choose whether to make their videos public, or keep them unlisted. The winners must immediately go on YouTube or YouKu and make sure their videos’ settings are switched to “public”. Those videos will be posted on the “Napolinova” association’s Facebook Page.

SOYOUNG LEE

Korean born flutist Soyoung Lee has finished her studies in America (Oberlin Conservatory and Yale University). She had been a principal flute of the Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra for 18 years(1993-2011). She has played many recitals and concertos with major orchestra including Ensemble of Tokyo at Kiyoii Hall in 2012 . She has been a jury member of the Israel Haifa international flute competition, the 2nd Beijing-Nicolet international flute competition and the 9th Kobe International Flute Competition. In 2019, She was a jury member of Carl Nielsen International Competition in Denmark. So far, she has released 3 Solo and concerti CD from Skarbo, France and Bach Brandenbourg concerti from EMI Korea. She is a professor of Seoul Central Conservatory and also teaches Seoul arts highschool and Yewon school of arts.

ANDREA OLIVA

Flautist Andrea Oliva studied with Gabriele Betti, Claudio Montafia, Glauco Cambursano, Jean Claude Gerard and Sir James Galway. He was invited as Principal Flute by the Berlin Philharmonic at the age of 23, during his Karajan Academy period, under the baton of Claudio Abbado and Mariss Jansons. He was awarded the third prize at the ARD Munich (2004) and first prize at the Kobe International Flute Competition (2005). He also collaborates with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. He has performed as soloist with the Accademia di Santa Cecilia Orchestra (Nielsen Concerto and the italian premiere of Dalbavie Concerto). He is a member of the Wind Quintet of Santa Cecila and Concertgeboeuw and I Cameristi di Santa Cecilia. As soloist and teacher he has been invited by many flute festivals in China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, USA, UK, Slovenia, Germany and Italy. He has recorded CDs for the labels Da Vinci Publishing, Falaut edition, Aulicus Classics, ARTS, Chant de Linos, VDM, Hyperion, Decca and Sony. Andrea Oliva Is currently Principal Flautist of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Orchestra in Rome, Italy, Professor at the CSI Music University of Lugano, Switzerland and he is currently Visiting Flute Professor at the RNCM of Manchester .

Flutist Amy Porter has been praised by critics for her exceptional musical talent and passion for scholarship. In a versatile and distinguished career as one of the world’s leading concert performers, she has become one of the most skillful and creative muses for composers of our time. Critics uniquely note her “strength, beauty, a captivating and seductive force, sensitivity, perfection and a sense of humor.” Amy Porter is performing American flute concerti to critical acclaim. When she performed her commissioned concerto “Trail of Tears” by Michael Daugherty in January 2020 with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, one reviewer wrote, "Porter's appearance with a modern piece in which such embedding of the guest artist with the vehicle shone so brightly seems to me a high point in the ICO's recent history." When she recorded and performed the work with the Albany (NY) Symphony in May 2015, The Albany Times Union wrote: "The focus remained on Porter’s beautiful tone color and Daugherty’s imaginative deployment of the orchestra." American Record Guide has lauded her playing for having "an innocent American lyricism..." and reviewers for annarbor.com write about her live performances, “Amy Porter deeply imbues her performance with a sense of narrative and of speech and, yes, drama.” This captivating performer was described by Carl Cunningham in the Houston Post as having “succeeded in avoiding all the overdone playing styles of the most famous flutists today.” In American Record Guide, flutist Christopher Chaffee wrote, “If you have not heard her playing, you should.” Ms. Porter “played with graceful poise,” noted Allan Kozinn in The New York Times. And Geraldine Freedman, writing in the Albany Gazette, commented, “Amy Porter showed that she’s not only very versatile but that she can do everything well. She chose a program that tested every aspect of her playing from a Baroque sensibility to using the instrument as a vehicle of sound effects, and she met each challenge with passion, skill and much musicality.” Ms. Porter has been a featured soloist with the American Composers Orchestra at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall, and with the Atlanta, Houston, Omaha, Delaware, Albany, Flint, Billings, Battle Creek, Arkansas, and Elgin symphony orchestras. She has twice appeared in recital at the National Concert Hall in Taipei, as well as at Skidmore College’s Arthur Zankel Music Center. Her collaborators have included such distinguished conductors as Nicholas McGegan, Ransom Wilson, David Alan Miller, Yoel Levi, Thomas Wilkins, José-Luis Gomez, Enrique Diemecke, David Amado, Anne Harrigan, and Arie Lipsky. She has given premieres of works by Michael Daugherty, Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, Joel Puckett, Christopher Caliendo, Katherine Hoover, and Frank Ticheli, among others. Winner of the 3rd Kobe International Flute Competition and the Paris/Ville d’Avray International Flute Competition, Ms. Porter has served on international juries around the world, including the 6th Kobe International Flute Competition. She has been heard in recital on National Public Radio; highlighted on PBS’s Live From Lincoln Center; and featured on the covers and as a writer for the magazines Flute Talk in the USA and The Flute in Japan. In 2006 Ms. Porter became the first performing artist to be awarded the University of Michigan’s Henry Russel Award for distinguished scholarship and conspicuous ability as a teacher. Her popular study guide on the German composer Sigfrid Karg-Elert elicited the following comment from Spanish Flute Society: “Strength, beauty, a captivating and seductive force, sensitivity, perfection and a sense of humor characterize the impressive American flautist Amy Porter.” She has won praise both as a recording artist and as a chamber musician. Corinna da Fonseca-Wollheim, in her New York Times review of the CD In Translation: Selections from J.S. Bach’s Cello Suites on the Equilibrium label, applauded Ms. Porter for her “gleaming, lyrical reading” of those works. As a member of Trio Virado with violist Juan-Miguel Hernandez and guitarist João Luiz, she recorded Mangabeira, a CD featuring works by Piazzolla, Brouwer, Hand, Assad and Luiz, about which Ken Keaton wrote in American Record Guide: “First let me say that these are fine musicians, and they present a set of performances that are unfailingly strong, expressive, and imaginative.” Formerly a member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Ms. Porter is Principal Flute of North Carolina’s Brevard Music Center, where she performs as soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player.Highlights of Ms. Porter’s 2019-2020 season as soloist include performances of Michael Daugherty’s Trail of Tears with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, the Brevard Music Center Sinfonia conducted by Joanne Falletta, and on tour with Florida orchestras in Vero Beach and Brevard. Recent releases include her latest CD Ballade, featuring the late works of Philippe Gaubert. Also newly released is THE GAUBERT CYCLE: The Complete Works for Flute and Piano by Philippe Gaubert, a DVD and movie download with guests Tim Carey and Penelope Fischer.
